Jay and David co-founded HDMB in 2017 seeing a need for local expertise in adding space and functionality to typical early 20th Century homes. With extensive building knowledge and a shared vision of personalised client service, integrity and high-quality workmanship, Jay and David positioned HDMB to be the leading extension and first floor addition authority you see today.

About HDMB - Your trusted residential builders in Sydney

David, coming from a family background in building was destined to work within the construction industry. From his early carpentry apprenticeship days in rural NSW to completion of his Certificate 4 in Newcastle, David placed himself as a leader amongst his peers.

With a career stretching from building new pole homes on the central coast, to relocating and renovating timber federation homes in Perth, to restoring 400-year-old stone and oak French farmhouses in the Channel Islands, to building cyclone compliant steel and concrete homes in Darwin, David’s experience as a builder and project manager is rarely seen in residential construction.

In 2007, David co-founded and launched HIA award winning Sark Builders in Darwin. As director, he operated for 10 years building large scale luxury residences across the city. In 2017, ready for a change in location and a new opportunity David teamed up with Jay and began planning the next chapter in their careers.

David effectively leads and oversees the site construction teams. His superior skills in scheduling, client liaison and contractor management allow him to deliver a streamlined process and high-end finish every time.

Jay, after completing a Bachelor of Design at the University of Newcastle, worked for a short period in the freelance space before embarking on a few years’ world travel. Whilst in the UK, Jay took a position programming preventative maintenance and lifecycle reporting for major pub and hotel chains. This, which started as a short-term placement evolved into a 20-year career within commercial facilities and asset management.

On return to Australia Jay worked for Brookfield Multiplex as Contract Manger at the NSW Police Headquarters in Sydney before being transferred to Stadium Australia to complete the final years of their post 2000 Sydney Olympics management contract. Jay then joined Stadium Australia Operations as Senior Manager Assets and Technical Services for the following 9 years.

With a background in design, form and aesthetics, as well as extensive technical knowledge of advanced building systems, materials, financials, strategic planning and the running of large-scale commercial projects, Jay brings a unique view and wealth of knowledge to HDMB.

Jay is often your first point of contact and will guide you through everything from the initial call to concept development and approvals through to project commencement.

Your addition will both require new materials and create a substantial amount of waste. Selection of sustainable materials and careful sorting, recycling and disposal of waste is to be considered.

HDMB encourages reuse of good quality recycled materials where possible. We can also advise on sustainable building methods, environmentally conscious heating and cooling, passive design and photo voltaic (solar) systems.

David is an accredited HIA ‘Greensmart professional’ and can meet to discuss your options.

We focus on our clients. HDMB take the ‘client first’ approach to your project. We will work with you to ensure all elements of the building project have been explained and consulted. We will listen to your queries and feedback and advise of the best options available to you. Client relationships and constant communication from start to finish is important to us.



HDMB have a stringent WHS and Environmental System, have full Product and Public Liability Insurance and ensure all our team and subcontractors are licenced, experienced and fully insured. HDMB will work with Council and private certifiers to ensure all critical stage inspections and certifications are met. We offer piece of mind that no compliance issues will arise during or after your project is completed.


A Client Portal Like No Other

On commencement of your project, you will receive access to your online project portal. From here you will follow the detailed schedule, view important dates and milestones, receive live updates, regular communication, and weekly documented progress reports…all with photos.

You will have access to real-time updates! This allows you to follow the job, see items as they are completed and take note of upcoming stages. Share your progress with friends and family.

Of all our systems, the transparency and accountability that the portal provides to our clients is the most valued.


Affiliations and Licencing

HDMB are members of numerous professional industry associations including the Housing Industry Association, Master Builders Association, the Association of Professional Builders and Australasian Timber Flooring Association. Our affiliation with the beforementioned associations ensures we are kept abreast of all code changes and regulatory updates We follow a strict code of conduct in line with industry standards, the Building Code of Australia and the National Construction Code.

In addition to the above we hold a variety of memberships and subscriptions to architectural, design and construction publications. We are kept abreast evolving construction methods, new materials and market product trends. HDMB are fully licenced and insured builders.


Quality Control

HDMB follow a structured building process developed from a lifetime of experience. Construction stages are scheduled and completed in a specific order ensuring a trouble-free process. Every construction stage has a series of quality control checks, totalling over 2000 per project. Before our team are permitted to move on to the next stage, they must first demonstrate that the current quality checklists and upcoming pre-checks have been completed. This system, automated by our project management software, ensures no items are forgotten, reduces human error and provides recorded evidence of stringent quality control.
